A Secret Rapture?

Part III

The Evil Prince

He will destroy the City and the Temple.

He will sit as God, in the Temple of God

compiled by Rachel Cory-Kuehl

 June 23, 2022

Scripture is from the NKJV unless otherwise noted.

Daniel 9:24Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy.

25 Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince [or simply an anointed prince], There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.

26 And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah [the anointed one] shall be cut off, but not for Himself [or, be cut off without posterity]; And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.”

Just reading through the text, it appears there are TWO, perhaps THREE major figures.

      (1) “the anointed one” who is “cut off” (meaning killed or executed)

      (2) “the prince who is to come” - who will destroy the city and the Temple

      (3) “the one who makes desolate”

(It is possible that the coming “prince” will BE “the one who makes desolate,” but that is not certain. The “prince” may prepare the way for a third figure.)

Who is “the prince who is to come?” (Daniel 7:26) What do we know about him?

He “will destroy the City and the Temple.”

He will “bring an end to sacrifice and offering.”

Rome? Islam? Antichrist? The Beast power? The Little Horn? Satan himself?

The word translated as “prince,” is “nagiyd” - Strong’s #05057, meaning: leader, ruler, captain, or prince.

He may not be a “prince” at all, in the English sense of the word, meaning descended from a King, and in line for the throne. He may just be a powerful RULER.

The ruler/prince to come, will either BE the “one who makes desolate,” or he will prepare the way for that great Evil One. At the 5th Trumpet “locusts” [demons] will be released from the Bottomless Pit, to torment men on earth who are without the seal of God. “They have as king over them “the angel of the bottomless pit.” Satan himself is of course, that fallen angel. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon(Revelation 9:11). Both those words mean “Destroyer.”

The “prince to come” will confirm a covenant with many for one “seven (Dan 9:27).

The LORD made a covenant with Israel at Mt Sinai, which was still in effect during the lifetime of Jesus. It certainly was not limited to “one week.” Believers today are betrothed to Christ by a New Covenant of marriage, as were His first disciples.

      See our study: “Two Covenants.”

I know of no covenant which Christ made with anyone for only 7 days, or 7 years.

The LORD did promise King Nebuchadnezzar that his throne would be secure for him, after “seven times” (years) of madness, but that was a promise (Daniel Chapter Four).

Let’s look at the passage again.

Daniel 9:27 “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one seven; But in the middle of the seven he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate” [or, “on the desolator,” in some translations].

The one who makes a covenant for one “seven” is the same “one who will “bring an end to sacrifice and offering” at the restored Temple. He is the one who “will destroy the City and the Sanctuary.” Who is he? We do not yet know. We know the things he will do. That is how believers in the final days, will recognize this evil “ruler.”

Let’s look at two verses from another prophecy given to Daniel.

Daniel 11:31 “Forces sent by him shall occupy and profane the Temple and fortress. They shall abolish the regular burnt offering and set up the abomination that makes desolate.” (NRS)

In this passage, the one who will abolish the regular burnt offering, is ALSO the one who will set up the abomination that causes desolation. This is definitely NOT Jesus!

The abomination of desolation is set up in the Temple, in place of the regular burnt offering. I believe this abomination will be “the Image of the Beast.”

Daniel 12:11From the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that desolates is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred ninety days.” (NRS)

The regular sacrifice is abolished, and the abomination is set up in its place - at the SAME time. In order to do this, the evil “prince” will have to break the 7 year covenant (treaty) he makes with the Jewish people.

Prophecies of the coming Evil One mention something called “the daily” in the King James Version. The NRS translates it as “the regular burnt offering.” The Little Horn (on the terrible Beast power) will abolish it, or take it away (Daniel 8:11).

Sounds like the Little Horn IS “the prince who is to come.”

The word translated as “the daily” or “the daily sacrifice,” is the Hebrew word “tamiyd” (Strong’s # 08548). It means “the continual.” The LORD commanded that the fire on the Brazen Alter in the courtyard of the Tabernacle, was never to go out (Leviticus 6:8-12).

That fire was to burn continuously. Every morning and every evening, a sacrifice was to be burned in that fire - symbolizing the continual covering of the atonement for Israel.

The “Little Horn” of the terrible Beast power, will take over the Temple.

He will halt the daily sacrifices. He will then set up the Image of the Beast at the Temple.

The prophecy of the “seventy-sevens,” is absolutely tied to the Temple at Jerusalem, and to the continual sacrifice offered on the Alter in the courtyard, of that Temple. The Antichrist power will stop the sacrifices at the Temple, and will then set up (in place of the sacrifices) “the abomination that causes desolation.

I realize that this has already happened - more than once.

Antiochus IV (175-164 BC), was the 8th ruler of the Seleucid empire. He gave himself the surname “Epiphanes” which means “the visible god” (meaning that he was Jupiter in visible form). He was determined to eradicate the religion of the Jews. He devastated Jerusalem in 168 BC, defiled the Temple, offered a pig on its altar, erected an altar to Jupiter, prohibited Temple worship, forbade circumcision on pain of death, sold thousands of Jewish families into slavery, destroyed every Torah Scroll that he could find, and resorted to every conceivable torture, seeking to force Jews to renounce their religion. This led to the Maccabaean revolt.

Again in 70AD, the Roman general Titus destroyed the Temple. In an effort to leave no trace of the Second Temple, the Emperor Hadrian erected a Temple to the Roman god Jupiter on the site.

Jesus predicted the Temple’s destruction when His disciples asked what “sign” would tell of the end of the age.

Matthew 24:2-3, 14-15, 21 “The disciples came to Him privately, saying, ‘Tell us, when will these things be? [When will the Temple be destroyed?] And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?’ . . .

[Jesus answered] ‘And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. . . .

Matthew 24 [continued] Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place . . . (Dan 11:31) then there will be great tribulation, [the Trumpet warning plagues] such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be (Daniel 12:1).’”

Should we expect another Temple, BEFORE the end of this age?

     I believe so.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 “Now, brethren, concerning the coming (parousia) of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, . . .

Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away COMES FIRST, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the Temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

Yikes!! The Antichrist will desecrate the Temple BEFORE the coming of Christ, and “our gathering to Him.”

Daniel 11:36-39 “Then the king will do as he pleases, and he will exalt and magnify himself above every god, and will speak monstrous things against the God of gods; and he will prosper until the indignation is finished, for that which is decreed will be done. 37 And he will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the desire of women, nor will he show regard for any other god; for he will magnify himself above them all.” (NAS)

Daniel 8:11 [Describing the actions of the Little Horn] “He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down.”

Daniel 11:45He will pitch his royal tents between the seas at the glorious holy mountain [at the Temple Mount]. Yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.” (NIV)

THIS has been Satan’s ambition from the beginning of his fall. Consider the following passage from Isaiah, describing the fallen Lucifer, who was once “the anointed cherub who covers.”

Isaiah 14:13 “But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north. 14 'I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’” (NAS)

1 Samuel 2:32 “And you will see an enemy in My dwelling place,” (1Sa 2:32).

When he sits in the restored Temple on the Mount at Jerusalem, it will be his moment of triumph. It will be short-lived.

Paul said that the coming “man of sin” would sit” in the Temple of God (2Thess 2:4). This is a very specific prophecy. The only person who was allowed to sit, within the Temple court, was the anointed Son of David - “the prince” of Ezekiel’s Temple prophecy (Ezekiel 44:1-3).

The prophecy of Zechariah 6:12-13 said he will be “a priest on his throne.” The ancient High Priest of Israel had no throne. This prophecy fits only one man - Yeshua the Christ, who will be King of Israel and also her High Priest (Psalm 110:4, Hebrews 7:1-3).

The fact that the coming Evil One will sit in the Temple, suggests this coming “figure” will claim to be the Son of David - the Messiah! THIS is the abomination which will cause the desolation of those who worship this imposter. They will be destroyed, along with him.

The generation of UN globalists, will celebrate the end of bloody animal sacrifices at the Temple of Jerusalem. They will welcome an inclusive house of worship for “all peoples.” The Christians and the Jews, not so much. But what if another powerful figure appears in the Temple, possibly even glorious in appearance? He banishes and defeats the first evil figure - the Little Horn (Evil Prince). How would Christians and Jews view this new figure? Would they not embrace him as Messiah returned? I believe such a scenario is entirely plausible. It would “deceive, if possible, the very elect” (Matt 24:24).

I believe the Imposter will claim to be the messiah figure for all of the world’s religions. He will claim to be an advanced alien who visited our planet many times over many thousands of years, for the benefit of mankind. Fifty six years of the Star Trek series, has prepared the world for this deception. So has the increasing appearance of Unidentified Arial Phenomena. See “Alien Intrusion“ on our resources page.

When King Belshazzar of Babylon used the golden vessels from the Temple of Jerusalem, to serve wine to his guests at a state banquet, a hand suddenly appeared, writing on the wall of the palace. “You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting. Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians” (Daniel 5:27).

It will be A SIGN for the people of God in the last days. When we “see the abomination, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (Matt 24:15, Mk 13:14), demanding the whole world serve him, we will know that Satan (with his Beast and His Little Horn) has been judged by the Court of Heaven, and dominion of this earth has been given to our Lord Jesus Christ (Daniel 7:9-14). We will know the final days have begun.

Daniel 9:27 “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one seven; But in the middle of the seven he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate” [or, “on the desolator”].

Darby and Scofield said this “week” will be the 7 years between the rapture of the church, and the Glorious Return. They believed the Antichrist will take over the Temple AFTER the church is raptured.

What does Paul say?

- the day of Christ’s return,

the day of “our gathering together to Him,”

until the Evil One sits in the Temple of God!

2Thessalonians 2:1-4

I believe the prophecies concerning “the daily” will be fulfilled in the last days of this age. I believe the Old City of Jerusalem will be destroyed (probably by an Islamic bomb). A command will then be issued to rebuild Jerusalem with the Temple.

The Antichrist (the Man of Sin, the Son of Perdition, and “the ruler who is to come”) will make a 7 year covenant (treaty) with the nation of Israel, which will include the rebuilding of the Temple. Halfway through that “week,” once the Temple is built, he will break this covenant, to set up his powerful network in the Temple (defiling the Temple).

To do this, he will have to “cut off the anointed ruler - the High Priest of that Temple.

(Priests as well as kings, were anointed for their office.)

He will abolish the animal sacrifices - thus taking away “the daily.”

He will then set up “the abomination of desolation” (“the Image of the Beast) in the Temple.

These will be signs for those who understand, telling them that the last “time, times, and a part” have begun. This will inspire the “Two Witnesses” of Revelation Chapter 11, who will begin their testimony.

I agree with Darby, that the prophecies point to a final period of 42 months (1260 days, time-times-and a part) during which the “Little Horn” (the representative “head” and enforcer for the “terrible Beast” power) will persecute the “saints” of God.

I do NOT believe the saints will be raptured BEFORE these events take place.

I believe the “lamb-like beast” of Revelation Chapter 13, IS the Little Horn” of Daniel Chapters 7, 8, 9 and 11.

Revelation 13:11-18 [John describes the lamb-like second beast.] “Then I saw a second beast, coming out of the earth [or out of “the land”]. It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon.

12 It exercised all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and made the earth     and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed.

13 And it performed great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people. 14 Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

15 The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.

This is why I see THREE figures in the Daniel 9 prophecy.

      (1) the anointed ruler (High Priest) who is “cut off” by

      (2) the prince to come (Little Horn), who prepares the way for

      (3) the man of sin, who will sit in the Temple of God, claiming to be God.

According to Darby, the Antichrist will deceive the Jewish people for the first half of the 7 years - making a covenant with them. He will then become a dictator who demands worship during the last half of the 7 years - called the “tribulation,” or “the time of Jacob’s trouble.” He will persecute the Jews who refuse to serve him. God will then punish those who persecute His people (the Jews) by pouring out great plagues. At the end of the 7 years, Christ will return in glory (with all His raptured saints) to set up His earthly kingdom.

I hope this study has presented sufficient arguments and Scripture passages, to explain why folks should seriously doubt Darby’s teaching.

In Part IV of our series on the Secret Rapture, we will look more closely at the 3.5 years of the Beast’s absolute rule.

We pray this study will help the saints of God to recognize the Evil Imposter.

We pray this study will prove a blessing.
